Pengguna Ubuntu Tembus 12 Juta Rabu, April 14, 2010

CALIFORNIA - Vendor Linux, Canonical mengklaim jumlah pengguna yang menginstal Ubuntu mencapai 12 juta pengguna. Jumlah pengguna Ubuntu akan terus melonjak hingga akhir April mendatang.

Berdasarkan data Linux Planet, kehadiran Ubuntu 10.04 atau yang dikenal dengan nama kode 'Lucid Lynx'  akan semakin mendongrak jumlah pengguna nantinya.

Seperti diketahui, jumlah pengguna Ubuntu pada tahun 2008, hanya sekira 8 juta pengguna. "Berdasarkan metodologi yang sama pada tahun 2008, kami percaya bahwa saat ini jumlah pengguna mencapai 12 juta," kata Chris Kenyon, vice president for OEM Canonical seperti dilansir Inquirer, Senin (12/4/2010).

Lucid Lynx Desktop akan menjadi first Long-Term Supported (LTS) Ubuntu sepanjang duang tahun. Lucid Lynx akan mendukung Ubuntu Desktop selama  tiga tahun dan lima tahun untuk Ubuntu Server. Interface yang ditwarkan Linux Lynx dinilai sangat mudah. Sehingga seorang pengguna dapat mudah terkoneksi dengan jejaring sosial seperti Facebook,  Twitter, Identica, Google Talk, MSN dan IRC.

Lucid Lynx atau Ubuntu 10.04 ini akan dirilis pada 29 April 2010 mendatang. Sebelumnya Ubuntu mengeluarkan versi terakhir pada tahun 2009, yakni Ubuntu 10 dengan nama kode Karmic Koala.

Tingkatkan Keuntungan, Adobe Rilis Creative Suite 5 Rabu, April 14, 2010

NEW YORK - Adobe Systems Inc resmi merilis update layanan terbarunya Creative Suite 5. Layanan diharapkan untuk meningkatkan penjualan perusahaan peranti lunak tersebut.

Produk yang ditujukan untuk desainer dan pengembang pada versi sebelumnya, Creative Suite 4, yang mulai dijual pada musim gugur tahun 2008 mengalami penjualan yang tidak bagus.

Selain itu Creative Suite 5 yang datang hanya beberapa hari setelah Apple juga meng-upgrade OS pada iPhone-nya, menjadi sarana yang efektif untuk mencegah mereka mengimpor aplikasi Flash untuk iPhone dan perangkat lain. Demikian yang dilansir Yahoo News, Senin (12/4/2010).

Seperti diketahui, Adobe Flash yang merupakan format untuk mendukung laman video, game dan grafis interaktif, tidak bekerja pada iPhone atau iPad tersebut. Adobe telah mencoba bekerja dengan memberikan para pengembang, alat untuk menerjemahkan aplikasi Flash untuk iPhone.

Secara keseluruhan, update terbaru dari Creative Suite 5 bertujuan untuk memudahkan bagi penggunanya untuk memasukkan unsur-unsur interaktif dalam desain mereka.

Sebuah tool baru yang disebut Flash Catalyst, misalnya, memungkinkan desainer tradisional membuat konten interaktif Web tanpa mengetahui bagaimana kode perangkat lunak. Menggunakan menu drop-down yang dapat mengubah kotak pada layar ke tombol.

Ini juga merupakan pertama kalinya Creative Suite meliputi layanan dari Omniture, sebuah perusahaan yang dibeli Adobe pada musim gugur yang lalu sebesar USD1,8 miliar. Teknologi Omniture membantu perusahaan mengukur cara orang berinteraksi dengan situs Web, iklan dan aplikasi online.

Creative Suite 5 termasuk upgrade dari software Photoshop yang membuat lebih mudah untuk mendeteksi batas gambar dalam foto, di antara fitur-fitur baru lainnya. Ini bisa berguna saat mencoba menghapus atau memindahkan gambar orang dari foto.

Soal harga, Adobe rencananya akan membanderol CS5 dengan kisaran harga antara USD1.299 hingga USD2.599.
